New skincare finds!! Summer 2023

Writer: Penn SmithPenn Smith

Here's a peek into some of the best new finds that have been on my radar for the past few months (out of the hundreds that I've evaluated!!)

Enjoy!

Jin Jung Sung Soothing Moisture Essence

This lush toner was recommended in my private Facebook group (sooo many good tips - if you haven't joined already, I'd love to have you!!)

It has a watery-jell consistency and layers exceptionally well. It's super hydrating and leaves my skin bouncy with no residue whatsoever. Plus it has so many good ingredients including peptides, humectants and antioxidants.

Verso Micellar Water

What makes this Micellar water different is that it uses Curcumin (turmeric) which is antioxidant, antiinflammatory and pigment inhibiting - which turns it from a plain-old-micellar to a multitasking friend.

Stay tuned as this brand has tons of interesting products which contain a new (and unique) molicule called Retinoate (also contained in one of the Medik8 products.)

Also, I can't rave enough about the Target exfoliating cotton rounds. They're perfect for use with micellar water as the smooth side lets you remove eye makeup without tugging whereas the exfoliating side gives that extra bump to the micellar water and helps it remove any dead skin without going in too hard.

Good Molecules B5 Body Serum

I've been testing a number of products to come up with an affordable body option. This serum is the first step which has some fantastic hydrating ingredients including B5 and polyglutamic acid which is thought to be even more moisturising than hyaluronic acid.

Cocoa Radiance Vaseline Body Oil

This is the second step in my affordable body option. So, what I like about this product is that it's a really occlusive at a great price. It does contain mineral oil - which I wouldn't rush to put on my face - but is perfectly fine in a body product. The combination of this Vaseline body oil and the Good Molecules has made a big difference hydration-wise in my body skin.

Dear Lucy Marine Serum

I was so excited to find this serum a few months ago and since I started using Dear Lucy it has become a firm favorite. It's packed with antioxidants (It includes tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, so it's what I've been using for vitamin c in my routine (but so much more!!) It also includes arbutin which is a potent pigment blocking ingredient in the form of a tyrosinase inhibitor.

That this brand is a female-owed (Canadian!!) small business makes me love it even more. I'll be talking about this one more in future videos - this serum is a bit of an investment but it's a real multitasking wonder with such a great ingredient deck and formulation.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

This a lipid-full occlusive that's brilliant at trapping in moisture - it's been a favorite of my community for ages.

Elf Pure Skin Moisturizer

As an affordable alternative to the Summer Friday's Jetlag Mask(above), I've found using the Elf Pur Skin Moisturiser as a mask works really well. Essentially I use the Elf product for ten mins and rinse it off. It has very similar ingredients to the Summer Friday's Mask, and while I don't love the Elf product as a moisturiser, it's perfect as a hydrating mask.

Burst Oral Probiotics

I'm so enthusiastic about these oral probiotics (who knew?!) I've never met a product that does such a good job of systematically keeping my breath clean. We're not talking masking yucky breath - but the real deal of helping me wake up with fresher breath. Essentially it impacts the microbiome of your mouth to eliminate some of the bad bacteria. I love this idea -it makes such sense!!

I also love the toothbrush from this brand - it makes a super gift.

Laneige Lip Balm

This is one of those products that looks a bit underwhelming - until you apply it. It gives the perfect nude/sheer whitish (but not opaque/white!!) to give that mod look, It's moisturising and so easy to wear

Medik8 Illuminating Eye Balm

This eye product is a sheer-balm that gives a beautiful finish. It's really sheer but gives such a natural brightening finish. It does't sink into fine lines or creases but moisturizes + brightens leaving the most subtle wash of color. It layers beautifully and is such a nice addition to my routine - I've never tried a product like it before.

Moira Eyeshadows

This is a recommendation of Jen Phelps who I follow both on YouTube and Instagram (she is SOOO good, you must check her out). This is such a unique and high quality eye shadow - at an amazingly affordable price

Neutrogena Eyebrow Pen

I love when I drugstore find ends up being just as good as the spendy original. I have a few of these eyebrow pens (from Anistasia Beverly Hills and Arches and Halos) that I find so useful for drawing on very realistic little eyebrow hairs. This type of eyebrow pen has basically replaced pencils/powders etc. for me. What I love about this pen is that it works just as well as the others and is less than half the price.

I use taupe.
